Technical Guide
Luxello illuminated house numbers use 8–12V AC or DC low voltage — not mains voltage. This makes them safe to handle, energy-efficient, compatible with solar power, and simple to install.
Luxello illuminated house numbers run on 8–12V AC or DC. The LED components operate on low voltage, supplied by a separate LED driver that steps down the 230V mains supply. This 12V system is safe to handle, energy-efficient, and compatible with solar power systems.
| Component | Voltage | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| LED inside the number | 8–12V AC or DC | Safe, low voltage — no shock risk when touched |
| LED driver (mains input) | 230V AC | Requires qualified electrician connection |
| LED driver (output) | 12V DC | Safe to handle — DIY-friendly |
| Solar panel output | 12V DC | Direct replacement for mains driver — no electrician |
| Doorbell transformer | 12V AC | Existing doorbell transformers are compatible |
The numbers have no polarity — the two wires from each number can be connected either way to the power supply. A single power supply can illuminate up to 6 numbers simultaneously.
Luxello numbers use very little electricity — far less than a typical outdoor light. Power consumption varies by size: 3-inch numbers draw under 0.2W, 5-inch numbers 0.2–0.4W, 8 and 10-inch numbers 0.7–1W, and 16-inch numbers 1–1.5W.
On a dusk-to-dawn cycle (approximately 4,000 hours per year) at 24p/kWh, running costs range from under 20p/year for a 3-inch number to around £1.44/year for a 16-inch — a negligible cost for a permanent architectural feature.
10-year replacement parts guarantee. Luxello guarantees replacement LED panels are available for all products for a minimum of 10 years from purchase. If a panel ever needs replacing, it can be ordered and fitted — the solid metal housing is built to outlast multiple LED generations.
A Lutron dusk-to-dawn light sensor installed on the power supply will turn the numbers on automatically at night and off at dawn, reducing energy consumption by approximately 55% compared to continuous operation.
Choose a driver based on your number size and how many digits you need to power. Luxello supplies three driver models: the DR1 for 3-inch and 5-inch numbers, the DR2 for 8-inch and above, and the DR3 for Triac or 0–10V dimming installations.
| Number size | Max units | Recommended driver |
|---|---|---|
| 3-inch numbers | Up to 10 units | DR1 |
| 3-inch numbers | Up to 20 units | DR2 |
| 5-inch numbers | Up to 5 units | DR1 |
| 5-inch numbers | Up to 10 units | DR2 |
| 8-inch numbers | Up to 7 units | DR2 |
| 10-inch numbers | Up to 5 units | DR2 |
| 16-inch numbers | Up to 3 units | DR2 |
| 24-inch numbers | Up to 2 units | DR2 / DR3 |
| 36-inch numbers | Up to 2 units | DR2 / DR3 |
The DR3 supports Triac and 0–10V dimming and is compatible with all number sizes. Use it where dimming control is required — home automation, smart switches, or variable-output architectural schemes. All three drivers output 12V DC.
